Our new address: 6401 Woodbine Rd, Woodbine, MD 21797.

Contact Numbers: 410-795-6070, cell 520-401-6117, jmarckathy@aol.com

I specialize in mohair, wool, alpaca and llama, handspun novelty yarns, as well as felted, woven, and knitted items.  I teach knitting, spinning, wet and nuno felting, and weaving by appointment. I do take interns, and sometimes live-in interns, so contact me, if you are interested. You will learn the entire process for turning raw fibers into yarns as well as any of the other techniques that I teach. This is in exchange for help washing fibers, administrative help in the shop and going to shows. You will learn the business side as well as the art side.

SHOP HOURS : Only by appointment - Monday-Friday from 10 A.M. - 4 P.M., and weekends, but only by appointment. Do call before coming, so I will be here and ready. I live 4 miles off I 70, just west of Baltimore and the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival fairgrounds.

Groups wanting to learn about the animals or to take a workshop are welcome.

Patterns, mohair locks, yarns and other popular items are now being offered on my shop: www.uniquedesignsbykathy.etsy.com.

Finished goods, such as shawls, hats, etc., are being listed on www.uniquedesignsbykathyshop.com.

Crazy/Abstract Lace Class: My newest class is available. See the workshop page for details. Prepayment required.

Yarn Scarves - In San Diego a new trend was started. Skeins of art yarn started to sell at the Festival of the Arts and have continued through the other shows and at the ranch. This is a skein that can be either knitted, crocheted, or simply draped around the neck as a cowl scarf. Smaller ones are also available. Look for them in the ranch shop and on my  etsy shop. This one has sold.

Animal tours: Spring Shearing, if you are locals and not fiber artists. It is a great way to see what the  wool business is like from beginning to end. People from out of state are encouraged to let me know when they arrive (I usually ask) and can always get a tour, if I am here and not teaching a class.

MY BLOG: http://www.uniquedesignsbykathy.blogspot.com: This is where you will find my "Tall Tales" about animals and discover my fiber secrets. You will also be able to track my whereabouts and be the first to know when I open classes for scheduling.

My Youtube videos can be found by searching for: "Tucson Withers". The videos, produced by my friend, Virginia Johns, include animal husbandry notes and drop spindling, as I teach it.

My Ravelry.com ID is uniquedesignsbyk. I have a group called Unique Designs by Kathy where you can see projects from my friends and visitors.

Directions: From I 70 in Baltimore, go west to the Woodbine Road, Rt 94 exit. Go north on Woodbine for approximately 4 miles. 6401 is on the right. The shop is the huge red barn at the end of the drive.

My business has grown out of my love of animals, fibers, and colors. I raise angora goats, angora rabbits, alpacas, Shetland sheep, Rambouillet/Columbia crosses, and Merino sheep for their fleeces.

I spin their fibers, blending and dyeing them in an array of colors. I strive to be unique in all that I create, so no two items are alike. Below is the fleece from a "red" angora goat. It actually spins up as a light shade of tan.
