My shop is located on the northwest side of Tucson, Arizona, on an eight-acre ranch. I specialize in mohair, wool, alpaca and llama fleeces, handspun novelty yarns, felted, woven, and knitted items.  I teach knitting, spinning, felting, and weaving by appointment. I rent wheels to beginners at a nominal fee, so they can decide whether spinning is something they would really like to do, before making a major investment in a wheel.

SHOP HOURS : Monday-Friday from 10 A.M. - 5 P.M., Saturday 10 A.M. - 1 P.M. and by appointment.

Closed August 12-15, 2010. Call my cell 520-401-6117 and I can have a friend open, if you are from out of town.

San Diego Holiday Arts Festival - Thankgiving weekend. Booth #320. Shop will be closed from Thursday through Monday noon.

I also have 2 online shops: http://www.uniquedesignsbykathyshop.com (yarns, patterns, and batts/roving)

http://www.uniquedesignsbykathy.etsy.com (mostly patterns and some yarns)

Animal tours are by appointment - mostly so I can rake. If it is your first visit, I will take you out for a short look at the animals whether you call or not. Just don't wear your best shoes!

See the Workshop page for upcoming classes.

My blog: http://www.uniquedesignsbykathy.blogspot.com: this is where you will find my "Tall Tales" about animals and discover my fiber secrets.

My Youtube videos can be found by searching for: "Tucson Withers". The videos, produced by my friend Virginia Johns, include animal husbandry notes and drop spindling, as I teach it here at the ranch.

My Ravelry.com ID is uniquedesignsbyk. I have a group called Unique Designs by Kathy where you can see projects from my friends and visitors.

Directions: Go north on Thornydale, cross Linda Vista (Safeway shopping center and Mountain View High school) and take a left onto Palo Seco. The first road on your left, immediately after the apartment complex and before the subdivision. The ranch is the first one on the right. Stay on Palo Seco until you come to the Unique Designs by Kathy sign and turn right into the parking lot.

My business has grown out of my love of animals, fibers, and colors. I raise angora goats, angora rabbits, llamas, alpacas, Shetland sheep, Rambouillet/Columbia crosses, and Merino sheep for their fleeces.

I spin their fibers, blending and dyeing them in an array of colors. I strive to be unique in all that I create, so no two items are alike. Below is the fleece from a "red" angora goat. It actually spins up as a light shade of tan.
